Toyota-Scion of Iowa City presents the Iowa City Jazz Festival

FESTIVAL LEADERSHIP VOLUNTEER POSITIONS:

Festival General Manager

Main Stage Manager

Vendor Coordinator

T-Shirt/Merchandise Coordinator

Transportation Coordinator

FESTIVAL ASSISTANT VOLUNTEER POSITIONS:

AISLE WALKERS -- One each night, right before the final performance of the evening, walk the crowd soliciting donations for the festival.

ELECTRIC SET-UP -- Friday, 9 a.m. until done. Assist Shay Electric personnel in picking electric panels up from storage, placing the electric panels, hooking to generators and laying electric cables. This position requires the capability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

GENERAL FESTIVAL SET-UP -- Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Close streets, help festival general manager with related duties, e.g., meet vendors dropping off items such as dumpsters, golf carts, etc.

HOTEL HOSPITALITY -- Distribute Jazz Fest information and information about Iowa City/Coralville to hotel guests, greet the bands when they arrive, give the bands their room keys and hotel information, give the bands their envelope that contains greeting letter, food and coffee coupons (one envelope per band).

ICE DISTRIBUTION/FESTIVAL ROVER -- Provide vendors with ice, take and manage ice money, provide vendors with access to refridgerated truck, troubleshoot any vendor/festival problems, help committee heads as needed.

MAIN STAGE SET-UP -- Thursday,  noon - 8 p.m.: set up fencing,  assist Main Stage General Manager with other related duties.

MAIN STAGE BACK STAGE SECURITY -- This is a fun position if you like to be where the action is. You can still see/hear the bands from backstage -- just from behind. The main job is to make sure no unauthorized people enter the backstage area.

MAIN STAGE FOOD CREW -- This is also a fun position if you like to be up close to the performers. Duties include keeping backstage food and drink stocked, the food tent picked up, garbage dealt with, etc.

MERCHANDISE BOOTH -- This is a very busy booth where many festival-goers stop to pick up the latest Jazz Fest t-shirt and ask questions. Duties include selling merchandise, keeping the merchandise neatly organized, answering questions, collecting lost and found and other related duties.

SIDE STAGE MANAGER -- This is a position for someone who wants to give a lot and have control over a piece of the festival. Side Stage Managers "own" one of the three side stages for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We'd prefer the same person for all three days, but would consider a one day "gig". Two or three managers are assigned to each side stage so you can help each other, give each other breaks, and take turns viewing the main stage performances (although side stages are positioned so you can hear and see the main stage, just not up close). Side stage managers help bands on and off with their equipment, make sure all vehicles are removed from the festival area once equipment is unloaded, introducing bands and "guard" equipment left on stage between sets. The hours are Saturday noon - 9:30 p.m. and Sunday 1 - 7:30 p.m.

TEAR DOWN/CLEAN UP SUNDAY -- Starts after the festival is over (around 9:30 p.m.). This is such an important job that is so much help to the festival organizers who have been at the festival 24/7. Duties include rolling electric cables, removing banners from the stage, trash pick-up on the Pentacrest, taking down tents, stacking tables and chairs for Big 10 Rental pick-up, and general street clean-up. A crew of 20-30 eager, strong help would be much appreciated!

VENDOR SET-UP ASSISTANTS: Friday, 10 a.m. - done. 1st shift workers will be marking vendor spots with chalk, then help vendors find their tent locations, pass out parking passes, make sure vendors are ready for inspection, trouble shoot problems with vendors. Wear comfortable clothing -- you may get dirty!

WATER SALES -- Sell water from one of the booths located throughout the festival.
